Class of 75 Trivial Pursuit

RESULTS

Herb Anderson gets the win with 5 out of 6 correct answers.  Runner ups were Mike Thurston and Kim Guartafiero with 4.  Since Mike was the first reunion attendee to get the most correct answers, I will buy him a beer at the reunion.  I’ll owe Herb a beer some other time.  I hope everyone enjoyed the walk down memory lane.  Congrats to everyone who played!

Here’s a summary of the answers:

Question 1: I couldn’t find any references on the internet about Shlottman ever playing in a band.  What we were told in school was that the song was “In the still of the night”, and that it was a local New Haven band. That would be the Five Satins on both counts.  29% of players got that correct.  The Shags also got 24% of the votes.  The Shags were an all girl band.

Question 2: I can’t say for sure who the streaker actually was without risking slander charges, but popular opinion at the time was that it was Jim Peck.  38 percent of players got that correct.  A lot of people (31%) thought it was Bob Ruszek.

Question 3: Most people (65%) knew our class’s contribution to tradition was PowderPuff chearleaders.  The origin of the idea, from my recollection, goes to Steve Robinson, who suggested it coming out of gym class one day.  The members of the squad were Steve Robinson, Pete Kremser, John DeLea, Marc Landow, Mike Thurston, Bill Hinman, and Steve Smith.

Question 4: the three teachers that were in middle school with us and then went to Sheehan with us were Zeoli (Moran), Siriani (Moran)  and Moran (Early).  44% of players got that correct.  Riccitelli, Farley and Neubauer came from Lyman Hall.  Mr Cigas taught at Lyman Hall for a while, not sure if it was before or after we had him, but never taught at the Junior High’s.

Question 5: The person associated with the school was Mark T Sheehan himself.  He died in 1973 at the age of 88.  He was described as a kindly family Doctor.  81% of players got that right.  Mark T. Sheehan was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, on February 22, 1885. He came to Wallingford with his parents when he was five years old and attended local schools and Holy Cross College, and graduated from Yale Medical School in 1910.  Dr. Sheehan became the health officer of the Borough of Wallingford in 1919.  Beginning in 1960, he served as assistant health director. His affiliations included county, state and the National American Medical Associations, and the Meriden-Wallingford Hospital.  Dr. Mark T. Sheehan selflessly devoted his life to the Wallingford community. To this end he made countless contributions through his work in public health as well as in his private practice. Known and loved by many in Wallingford, he was honored for his dedication to humanity during Wallingford’s tercentenary celebration in 1970, when the high school was named for him. On Sunday, October 17, 1971, Mark T. Sheehan High School was dedicated in his honor.  Jim Croce got 2 votes.  He was a musician who died in 1973 in a plane crash.  In around 1974 I heard on the radio that 20 years from then no one would know who Jim Croce was, as they will of course remember Janice Joplin and Jimi Hendrix. The irony is that one of Croce’s songs (Operator) is about a call from a phone booth, with a phone number scribbled on the back of a matchbook; two things (phone booth, matchbook) that will be or are already forgotten.  Famous line: “you can keep the dime”

Question 6: Definitely the toughest question.  The class gift was a podium.  Only 13% got that correct.  The biggest vote getter (44%) was a scoreboard.  That would have been a better gift for sure…
