I probably was 12 years old when I met John Kastukevich.  I had just joined the Boys Club basketball team on the "other side of town".  All the guys became my friends, but John was by far the most welcoming and friendliest member of the group.  Although our paths went separate ways, I always enjoyed seeing John at reunions and catching up with him.  I had an especially good time talking with him at the 2010 reunion.  We agreed to meet up in 5 years, as we were both survivors.  I'm sure he gave cancer a noble fight.  John was receiving treatments at both Yale and Harvard medical centers.  Hopefully they learned something from his experience that will someday allow others to live even longer.
